KEITH HARTLEY’S WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY AND BODY TRANSFORMATION THANKS TO THE EAGLE KICKBOXING TEAM!

What motivated you to lose weight?

“I had been overweight for most of my adult life and realised that I needed to get fitter and eat more healthily. I did not want to be an overweight unfit father to my children which for me means being fit and healthy into my 70’s at least!”

Did you have to make a big change your diet?

“My diet has changed totally but I did it gradually and introduced changes that I can sustain for the rest of my life, cutting down on processed food and sugar. Again, the key is to do this gradually and ‘wean’ yourself off or away from certain foods, otherwise you will crave foods if you give them up totally too quickly. You can also introduce food which will help with your weight loss – protein like eggs are really good as they stop you craving sweet things. I still enjoy the odd pizza or bar of chocolate and it’s not a problem. It’s also not what you eat but getting smart with your diet – like for example the advice my coach gave me about eating more times a day but smaller portions.”

How have you continued to lose weight during difficult/stressful times in your life?

Being disciplined with my diet and continuing to evaluate what I am eating – at the moment for example I am trying to cut down on white bread. Also by keeping active as much as possibl20131028_185924e, like for example, at the moment whilst I am not training because of family commitments.

How much weight have you lost in total?

About 28kg or 4 and a half stone.

How has it changed your life?

More confidence, feel fitter and I don’t struggle to buy clothes anymore, and I never get tired of the reaction from people who I have not seen for a while either!!

How has kickboxing helped you?

The training and exercise routines are really effective – it’s done more for me than any gym membership ever could. I never realised how simple exercises which use your own body weight could be if done as part of well thought out exercise routine.

IMG_0022What do you feel are the health benefits of a well-balanced diet and regular exercise?

You just feel better, you feel fitter and more able to take on life’s other stresses. You’ll live longer, spend less time ill or with health conditions. You only get one life and one body to live in!

Are you happy with your current weight or do you wish to lose more?

No I think 75kg is a good weight for me. I am a 32 inch waist down from 40 inch and shirt sizes medium down from XL so this is about right.

What would you advise to anyone wishing to lose weight?

Prepare for hard work in terms of exercise – but it can be fun too ☺. But also be smart with your diet – eat smaller portions more times, eat protein, introduce changes which you can keep going, do this gradually and like me you will maintain the weight loss. Get smart and get fit. Weigh 104 kg and 40 inch waist like I did – it doesn’t have to be that way!
