Meet Our Founder and Chief Instructor

At The Eagle Kickboxing Academy, I am proud to serve as the Founder and Chief Instructor, specialising in K-1 Kickboxing, Muay Thai/Thai Boxing, self-defense, and overall fitness.

My martial arts journey began in childhood, inspired by Bruce Lee films and the iconic boxing matches of Joe Frazier, my father’s favorite. With a makeshift punching bag crafted from sand-filled refuse bags, I developed discipline, confidence, and an unyielding passion for the sport. This drive led me to join an amateur boxing gym, where my dedication to martial arts truly took off.

Over the years, I’ve expanded my expertise beyond boxing into karate, taekwondo, and jujitsu, before finding my ultimate calling in K-1 Kickboxing. With years of amateur and professional K-1 Kickboxing and Thai Boxing experience, I’ve had the privilege of training at elite camps in Holland and earning multiple accolades, including a second-degree black belt recognized by WPKA and ISKA.

In addition to competing, I’ve dedicated myself to teaching and coaching, previously serving as the WFMC K-1 Kickboxing National Coach and official referee. My qualifications include First Aid and Safeguarding Protecting Children certifications, DBS clearance, and full indemnity insurance, ensuring the highest standards of safety and professionalism for my students.

At The Eagle Kickboxing Academy, I am passionate about inspiring individuals of all ages and backgrounds to unlock their potential through martial arts. Whether you’re looking to improve your fitness, learn self-defense, or compete at a high level, I am here to guide you every step of the way.

Gym History

The Eagle Kickboxing Academy

2012 - The Eagle Kickboxing Academy Was Established

The Eagle Kickboxing Academy was founded by Alex Vorfi in April 2012. The inaugural class took place at The MAC Centre, Cannon Hill Park, on Sunday, April 22. With just four students and minimal equipment, Alex traveled weekly from Loughborough to Birmingham to share his passion for kickboxing, determined to make an impact in the local community.

Late 2012 - Expanding to Support the Community

Approximately six months after launching, Alex recognised the need to provide more accessible training opportunities. To support individuals from underprivileged areas, he introduced an additional evening class at St Martins Community Centre every Wednesday. The academy began to grow, both in the number of students and in community outreach.

2013 - Opening the First Full-Time Dojo

By 2013, Alex took a bold step forward and opened The Eagle Kickboxing Academy's first full-time dojo on Sloane Street, off Camden Street. This significant move allowed membership to increase, and the academy started to gain recognition in Birmingham. The dojo became a hub for aspiring martial artists and a testament to Alex’s dedication to the sport.

2017 - Facing Challenges and Seeking New Beginnings

In 2017, The Eagle Kickboxing Academy faced a major challenge. A redevelopment project for new apartments on Sloane Street forced Alex to find a new location for the dojo. Despite the setback, Alex's determination led him to search tirelessly for a suitable new space, ensuring the academy’s legacy would continue.

December 2017 - A New Home in the Jewellery Quarter

By December 2017, the academy relocated to a state-of-the-art facility in the Jewellery Quarter. This move brought a new era of growth and success. The Eagle Kickboxing Academy became a prominent presence in Birmingham city centre and surrounding areas, attracting students from across the region. The new location provided an upgraded training environment, contributing to an ever-growing and passionate community.

Present - A Legacy of Champions and Future Ambitions

Since its founding in 2012, The Eagle Kickboxing Academy has trained over 5,000 students, producing numerous champions and earning respect in the martial arts world. Today, with eyes set on future expansion, the academy is planning to move to a larger facility to accommodate the growing demand and continue its mission of empowering students through the art of kickboxing.
