11 Nov ANTI-BULLYING WEEK MONDAY 11TH – FRIDAY 15TH NOVEMBER 2024
Did you know that over 1 in 5 students report being bullied?
Bullying can leave deep emotional scars, affecting mental health and self-esteem.
Research shows that 30% of children have been bullied in the last year alone.
17% have been bullied online.
One child in every classroom experiences bullying each day.
Bullying has a significant impact on a child’s life going into adulthood and adults whom have been bullied as a child are more likely to experience a range of mental health issues, earn less money, experience unemployment, battle obesity, find it difficult to be in a stable relationship, leave school with no qualifications.
Together, we can make a difference by promoting empathy and support in our communities.
Here are a few ways to combat bullying:
- Speak up when you see bullying happening.
- Be a friend to someone who needs support.
- Share positive messages to uplift others.
- Educate yourself and others about the impact of bullying.
- Encourage open conversations about feelings and experience.
Martial arts can address bullying in several ways:
- Martial arts training provides individuals with the skills to defend themselves physically against bullies. Knowing how to protect oneself can boost confidence and deter potential aggressors.
- Martial arts can develop a greater sense of self-worth, which can help them stand up to bullies and avoid confrontation altogether.
- Martial arts instills values such as respect, discipline and humility. One learns to respect themselves and others which can foster a more positive attitude towards their peers and reduce the likelihood of bullying behaviour.
- Engaging in martial arts promotes physical fitness, which can improve overall well-being and resilience. A healthy body can contribute to a healthy mind, helping individuals cope better with stress and adversity, including bullying.
- Martial arts schools create a sense of community among students. This supportive environment can help victims of bullying feel less isolated and provide them with a network of friends and mentors who can assist them in dealing with bullying situations.
Let’s unite for a world where everyone feels safe and valued!
